Switzerland is known for its picturesque alpine landscapes and jaws-dropping lake views. In this post, we share 7 stunning camping spots (Stellplatz/Campsites) which we had been!
1. Camping Morteratsch in Pontresina, Engadin (Campsite)
Standing at 1860m above sea level, Camping Morteratsch is the highest campsite in Europe. It is a well-kept site in natural settings and suitable for all types of campers – tents, motorhomes, caravans or campervans. and you might be happy to learn that they are opened all year round! The campsite is situated in the proximity of 2 alpine lakes and multiple streams. We made a few day trips to explore the area by bike, including a tour to Poschiavo and St.Moritz. Pontresina is also renowned for its remarkable hiking experiences. Be intrigued by one of the most beautiful alpine regions in Switzerland.
2. Campingplatz Pè da Munt in Val Mustair, Engadin (Campsite)
Campingplatz Pè da Munt is a cozy campsite located in Val Mustair, the home to 2 UNESCO World Heritage sites -Biosfera Val Müstair (regional nature park) and the Monastery of St. John. It is a cozy campsite which is not far from the ‘must visit’ Swiss National Park! We really enjoyed the serenity and the accessibility of the campsite to the nature and cultural sites. The campsite is a short walk to the old town, buses come rather regularly for visits to the national park.
3. Flüelapass, near Davos (Stellplatz)
We stood overnight at Tschuggen Stellplatz (altitude ~2000m) on the Flüelapass. For us, this was a great stopover before heading onwards to the Engadin. We arrived at nightfall, appreciating the peace of the surrounding mountains. Waking up to the first light, we were invited to an incredible alpine scenery! Breakfast and coffee with a view of nature at its best, all at the doorstep, anyone? We could not help making picture stops to capture the breathtaking mountainscape as we continued our drive along the Flüelapass.
4. Glarus Alps – Fronalp (Stellplatz)
The Stellplatz is located at an altitude of ~1100m in the Glarus Alps – Fronalp. It offers unblocked mountain views! We made a short day hike around the area and pitched overnight. This Stellplatz is recommended for fully-sufficient campers as there is no access to water or sanitary facilities (at least not when we were there in early winter). 5. Camping des Glaciers in La Fouly, Valais (Campsite)
I can only describe our experiences with Camping des Glaciers as extraordinary. We were fully immersed in the mountainscape and nature, this place is simply just too beautiful. The campsite is located at an altitude of 1600m (much to our liking to camp at higher altitudes). We had a spacious pitch with a fantastic view of the glacier. Camping des Glaciers offers full camper services with also modern sanitary facilities. Tip top!
6. Wald-Stellplatz-Rhodania in Goms, Valais (Stellplatz)
We were there late in fall and the entire forest was ‘brimming’ in gold. The sight was absolutely mesmerizing and magical. The forest was so calm and we really enjoyed the exclusivity. This Stellplatz is a hidden gem! You have to pay a small nominal fee of CHF 15/night, there are basic facilities – fresh water, toilet and black/grey water disposal. Power is also available for an extra CHF3/night.
7. Aaregg Camping, Brienzersee (Campsite)
This is a 5-star campsite, located at a superior location along Lake Brienz. We had a premium pitch, with a vast view of Lake Brienz. Aaregg campsite is very conveniently located and you can easily explore the surroundings by bike or foot!
